SUMMER CAMP TRAINING

Receive 10-days on site teacher training at our summer camp in Beijing before you arrival at your placement school. Make new friends, learn new skills, and grow your confidence under a tried and tested model.

Get the chance to explore the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, and Forbidden Palace through day excursions during the camp.

PAID PLACEMENT

Every applicant is guaranteed a monthly salary between £750 to 2000 a month (plus bonuses). It's important to remember that the purchasing power in China is 2-4x (depending on the city) that of the UK meaning that your money will go much further.

For instance if we talk about the prices in Shanghai (most expensive city in mainland China) you can get the following; subway ticket for 30-50p, meal at a cheap restaurant £2-3, 10km taxi £3, hair cut £3-5.

120 HOUR TEFL COURSE

We provide all of our applicants with access to a 120 hour TEFL course necessary to become a qualified teacher in China. The course is split over two portions with half being completed online and the remaining half being completed during our summer camp induction in Beijing.

By providing our applicants with direct access to the TEFL course we take the stress away from having to search the internet to find your own legitimate course that can be accepted in China.

ONE MONTH PAID HOLIDAY

Applicants will receive a one-month paid vacation during the Chinese new year break which falls somewhere between January and February each year. Many teachers use this time to get a well deserved break from teaching and explore neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Korea, Japan, and Cambodia. Some teachers also decide to use this time to reconnect with family back in the UK.

FREE ACCOMMODATION

Not only do our applicants receive a well-paid salary but they are provided with FREE accommodation for the duration of their stay with their placement school. Most of the accommodation is on-site or nearby to the school and in most cases utility bills will be included as well (up to a fair limit).

APPLICATION REIMBURSEMENT

Once our applicants have completed their contract with their school they receive reimbursement for their flights (two-ways) up to a limit (usually around $1000-1200). All applicants need to do is provide the school with a copy of their flight receipt. Some schools may also provide other application reimbursement such as legalisation of document fees, medical checks, and visa documentation costs (depends on school/region).

PLACEMENT SELECTION

Our applicants have the flexibility to choose between a number of varying locations in China from urban metropolises with the newest high-tech infrastructure to semi-rural cities that still provide that feeling of the old China. As well as location applicants can choose from a range of other factors such as school type, age of students, working hours, and even the strictness of the school. To provide the most flexible selection process possible.

OTHER COMMON QUESTIONS

WHAT ABOUT IF I DON'T LIKE THE EXPERIENCE AND WANT TO LEAVE

It happens, we completely understand that each year we will have a certain percentage of applicants that don't find China to be an enjoyable experience. Every person is different, and we can never know for sure who will have a positive experience and who will not. In the event that we find an applicant isn't enjoying the experience, we will try to do whatever is possible to improve their situation. If an applicant is still sure that they don't want to continue their programme they will not be forced to. Any applicant can choose to cancel their placement, however, do note that there may be financial repercussions from their placement school. The applicant will also be required to fund their own travel expenses back to their home country. In all, this would end up being a huge waste of time for everyone involved and at a huge cost to the applicant. We encourage that our applicants talk to their family members/friends and conduct some research prior to applying.

WHAT IS TEACHING IN CHINA'S ROLE IN ALL OF THIS?

It's a good question! We are the gateway between graduates in the UK and schools in China. What we do is help our applicants build their application to apply to a school in China. We provide our applicants with support in compiling the required documentation to apply for a Working Visa (Z). We also help our applicants become legally qualified by working with our Chinese partners CEAIE to provide our applicants with access to a FREE TEFL certified course. Thirdly, we provide our applicants with interview opportunities at schools across China and help our applicants in the transition phase between living in the UK and living and working in China. Think of Teaching In China as not just a company but a community, through this programme our applicants will make many new friends some of which may become new friends for life. What we don't do is we don't run schools ourselves in China. We are not responsible for teachers throughout their work year this is between the applicant and their placement school.

CAN I APPLY WITH A FRIEND OR AS A GROUP?

Welcome! We accommodate applicants that wish to travel together as a pair or group in the same way as we would with an individual application. We will try to place these applicants at the same school or in a nearby location to each other.

WHAT'S THE AVERAGE COST OF LIVING?

The costs of living in general is much cheaper than that of the west. A few examples of the prices of goods/services can be seen below, the following have been based on the prices in Shanghai which are the highest in China (the cost of living in Shanghai is about 2x to 3x some other cities): Subway: 3-4RMB (one-way ticket) A cheap meal: 10-25RMB Mid-range meal: 25-50RMB High-end meal: 50-150RMB Cinema Ticket: 20-80RMB Western Restaurant: 50-150RMB Bus: 1-2RMB Rent a bike: 1RMB (per 2 hours) Mobile contact: 40-100RMB (per month) Rent & Bills (Full-time option only): 2000-4000RMB (Rent is by far the biggest expense in Shanghai)

CAN I USE FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, AND INSTAGRAM IN CHINA

Yes and no. In the mainland of China there are some restrictions that prevent people from accessing certain websites/apps and services that we take for granted each day. In China there is typically a Chinese version for each application i.e. instead of google they have baidu search engine. The problem for foreigners is that many of these services only provide Chinese language support. The solution that many foreigners have to this problem is to purchase a VPN prior to travelling to China. A VPN provides access to all your favourite websites such as facebook, instagram, youtube...... through a software application. The price of VPN's can vary widely, but we suggest that it isn't something that you should worry about straightaway and you can look at getting one just before travelling to China.
